Arts and Culture
Around Palm Beach County at Holiday Time
The day is sunny. The air is warm. And you have some time on your hands. Aside from all the standard things to do here in Palm Beach County, i.e. watersports, golf, beaches, tennis etc., there’s a wide range of cultural activities going on in December and January. If you want to savor the beautiful weather and still get some cultural fulfillment, outdoor art festivals are the perfect choice. Head to beautiful Boca Raton for the 32nd Annual Boca Fest 1/12-1/13 or the 10th Annual Boca Raton Fine Art Show 1/26-1/27. Both feature a wide array of talented artists and crafters selling everything from jewelry to paintings, ceramics to art glass. If your tastes are more in the area of fine art, you’ll want to check out ArtPalmBeach at the Palm Beach Convention Center, 1/17-1/20. It’s a world-class show that is perfect for the serious collector. And, if you can hold off until February 9, the fabulous Norton Museum of Art reopens with several exciting exhibits, including “Going Public: Florida Collectors Celebrate The Norton.”
And then there are the performing arts. Though there are many wonderful venues in the area, this time of year, the Kravis Center offers a packed calendar of events. Choose from shows like: “On Your Feet,” Gloria Estefan’s acclaimed musical, the Miami City Ballet, the Shanghai Opera Symphony Orchestra and “Catskills on Broadway.” Another great venue dedicated to the arts is Delray Beach’s popular Old School Square. With their signature 100 foot Christmas tree, it’s the perfect place to go during the holidays. Head over for “Christmas with the New York Tenors” on 12/18 or the Greenlane Solid Brass’s Free Friday Concert on 12/22. If you prefer to sip your holiday cheer, you’re sure to love the Winter Craft Beer Garden on 12/28. Check their full schedule for so much more—from movies to art shows, their schedule has something for everyone. Visit the Maltz Theatre on Indiantown Road in Jupiter for a live performance of Mamma Mia! Thru Feb 10.
Oh, and don’t forget the South Florida Fair beginning 1/17. It’s a crowd-pleasing, entertainment, ride, game and food fest that has something for everyone. Around here, the hard part isn’t finding something fun to do. It’s deciding which event to attend. Happy Holidays!
